EMDR

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the emotional distress and symptoms that are directly relating to disturbing life experiences. Studies show that after using the EMDR therapy method, people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that would otherwise take years to make a substantial difference. EMDR therapy proves that the mind can heal from psychological trauma similarly to how the body recovers from physical trauma. For example, if you cut your foot, your body works to close the wound on instinct. If a foreign object or repeated injury then irritate the wound, it festers and causes more pain. Once the pain catalyst is removed, healing resumes. EMDR therapy demonstrates that if the system is imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound in the brain then festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the imbalance is removed, healing resumes. Using detailed procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, our clinicians can help clients activate their natural healing processes through EMDR therapy.

In order to conduct EMDR therapy, the therapist must involve attention to three time periods within the eight-phase treatment approach: the past, present, and future. The focus is given to past disturbing memories and related events, current situations that cause distress and to developing the attributes and skills needed for positive future actions.
